Luis and I are old friends, so it was special for me to be apart of their wedding day. They chose an intimate, small gathering style celebration and I’m finding more and more that those are truly my favorite to shoot. I get a lot of time with the couple and the photography gets to unfold organically. Its a treat for me. Their ceremony was inside the mural room at the Santa Barbara courthouse. I wanted their photos to feel like home, but also, I wanted to refresh how I have seen the courthouse photographed in the past. After the ceremony we took a walk down State St. to the reception at Casa Blanca. We hoped into little interesting nooks along the way and shot a few frames just to have fun with it and capture the spontaneity of these two as a couple. They are known for their adventures, so it was an obvious choice to photograph them having a celebratory quickie cocktail at Old Kings Road and then sit them in a living room display at Restoration Hardware. Amelia was a stunning and graceful bride, I spent the earlier part of the day with her and she was so calm, and so ready to be Luis’ wife. It was lovely just hanging out with her and her family pre-ceremony. Their emotions and elation on the day were contagious.
